Pre Production Week 1 - Brief

Updated: Jan 27

Introduction

When designing an environment, I have to consider what it might look like if it were forgotten by time. I think about the original purpose of the space, what could have led to its abandonment, and how nature and weather might have worn it down over the years. It could be anything, a crumbling ruin from an ancient civilization, a space station destroyed by disaster, or a home overtaken by the wild.

I need to use environmental storytelling to bring the narrative of the space to life. How will players move through and interact with the environment? What will draw their attention, and how will the composition guide their journey through the space?

It’s also crucial to manage the scope of the project. I focus on creating a smaller scene with one strong focal point and a few key shots, rather than trying to build a sprawling environment. Keeping it focused allows me to craft a more impactful and polished piece.

In this Assignment you will do the following:

1.     Write a project proposal, outlining what you intend to create

2.     Create a game environment of a “forgotten place”

3.     Render your environment in real-time in UE5

4.     Create one hero asset to serve as a focal point (includes tech art)

5.     Document your process
